Pieces Left Behind

I did this in charcoal on charcoal paper for my junior art class..
It won an honorable mention at the Rose Center Art Show in Morristown, Tn.
The year I did this, just about everything I created was out of heart ache caused by a certain person.. Just about all of the drawings and paintings I did were of the last weekend we were together.. Happy and otherwise.. The moths represent pieces of him that I've let go and pieces I have held onto.. As if they were tangled in my hair and heart and couldn't escape.. I haven't spoken to him since the week after that weekend four years ago.. and I won't.. I had to sever him from me for my own sake.. Sometimes you have to save yourself if you ever want the ability to care for anyone else at all ever again..
